Dmoz.org
Originally called Gnuhoo, then NewHoo before becoming Open Directory Project (ODP), the directory was launched by Rich Skrenta and Bob Truel in 1998.
The (ODP) is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a global community of over 85,000 volunteer editors.
While some editors focus on the addition of new listings, others focus on maintaining the existing listings. This includes tasks such as the editing of individual listings to correct spelling and/or grammatical errors, as well as monitoring the status of linked sites. Others also go through site submissions to remove spam and duplicate entries.
A consequence of the free submission policy is that the ODP have enormous numbers of submissions and so it may take a few weeks or months for a website to appear.
To submit a directory listing go to dmoz.org and select the most relevant category for your property. It should be region specific and be under Vacation Rentals. For example:
Regional: Europe: Spain: Andalucia: Almeria: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Vacation Rentals or Regional: Europe: France: Regions: Aquitaine: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Vacation Rentals
Once you've selected the best category for your site, go directly to that category and then click "suggest URL" found in the top right navigation of your screen. Follow the instructions on the submission form reading the guidelines carefully.
When adding your description ensure that you describe the content of your site concisely and accurately using between 25-30 words.
An ODP editor will review your submission to determine whether to include it in the directory. Depending on factors such as the volume of submissions to the particular category, it may take several weeks or more before your submission is reviewed. Please remember that you should only submit a URL to the Open Directory Project once as multiple submissions may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites.
