Launched in March 2000 as a local London classified ads and community site, Gumtree was designed to connect people who were either planning to move, or had just arrived in the city, and needed help getting started with accommodation, employment and meeting new people.
It now covers 60 cities across six countries - the UK, Ireland, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa - and is the UK's biggest website for local community classifieds. Gumtree has more than one million visitors every month.
In 2005 Gumtree became part of the Kijiji family within eBay. Kijiji, which means "village" in Swahili, is a group of community classifieds websites similar to us found in more than 90 cities around the world. Check out Kijiji.com too.
Posting an ad on Gumtree is quick and easy. Simply click on the "post an ad" button on the right-hand side of the home page. Then choose the ‘Flats / Houses to Share, to Rent, for Sale’ section and then the most relevant category for your ad – UK holiday rentals or Overseas holiday rentals.
Fill out the details in the posting form remembering to include a link to your website and follow the prompts to submit your advertisement.
Once submitted, there can be a delay of up to 3-4 hours before the advert will appear online. Please also be aware that images/ photos can take longer to appear in your ad than the text will.
After you submit your advertisement, you will be sent a confirmation email which will contain a reference number and password. Please keep this email, because you will need these details later to edit, repost or delete your ad.
