UK-Cottage-Rental.co.uk started life as part of a University project but has moved on and is now run as a small cottage industry in a basement office in Sheffield. The developers intend to establish a database of over 5000 properties and it currently has more than 500 unique visitors each day.

The property owners create and manage their own adverts, with 24/7 access to their management area. Currently advertising with UK Cottage Rental is free of charge.

You can create a one page advert with seven photographs of your property and up to five virtual tour images. Your advert has Google ads at the top in the main text which doesn’t look great but will be a source of income for UK-Cottage-Rental.co.uk, meaning you get your listing for free.

You can bookmark the page using the handy bookmark widget and the very bottom of your ad gives the enquiry form so the questions are delivered straight to your inbox. You get an Availability Calendar, provided by a third party and an automatic map link. UK Cottage Rental state that the listing will be free for one year and you will never be charged commission on bookings.

The Home page is geared towards attracting holiday home owners to list for free rather than for holidaymakers to search for a property but this fits with their expansion plans.

Visitors to the website can click on the links on the left to search for their holiday rental; they can choose from Lake District Cottages, Cornwall, Devon, Special Offers, View All Listings, Cottages, Log Cabins, Caravan Rentals and Castles. Alternatively they can choose to search using a tick box. Initially they get to see a thumbnail photo, the name of the property, its location and how many people the property sleeps.

Clicking on the name or the photo brings up the full information available. It’s basic information but tells the visitor what they need to know, more information can easily be obtained by contacting the owners directly using the Booking Enquiry form at the very bottom of the advert.
